Sneaking in some holiday time before work comes calling again? You’re not the only one. It seems like as time passes, technology has brought its own share of headaches. People tend to miss a simpler time when the phone didn’t chirp to notify us of things going on in the world, and we could sit at the dinner table without anything vibrating in the background.
Unfortunately, the age of technology has brought its fair share of advantages, but also some strong disadvantages. When you’re ready to unplug and get away from it all, a lovely place is waiting for you: Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland. A lot of people don’t really give Switzerland the credit it deserves as a vacation destination. Going on holiday to Switzerland guarantees good food, amazing culture, and friendly people. This is a meeting ground of art, business, and finance, and if you have any interest in any of these subjects, you’re bound to find something you like in the city.
But don’t take our word for it. Below is a list of five things to do in Zurich.
You can sightsee everywhere, but the city of Zurich is packed with interesting things to see. One area to check out especially would be the Kunsthaus, a place where you can view over 4,000 pieces of fine art. This fine establishment was founded in 1787! There’s a lot of history waiting for you in Zurich, and this museum is just one small piece of it.
Zurich is a world class city, which means that there are plenty of places to eat. One of the most famous would have to be Spruengli, which was founded in 1836! If you go to this cafe, you must try the Luxemburgerli, which is a Swiss twist on the classic macaron.
Spas and massage therapy centers are found in the city, giving you time to have those tight muscles relaxed. While it’s true that you could do this at home, chances are good that you aren’t going to give yourself the chance.
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, you have plenty of great activities. From skiing to something known as snowkiting, there are plenty of chances to hit the slopes and try something interesting. Winter hiking is also available, even though you could also do this in the summer. Old fashioned ice skating is also popular. Not that extreme? There are health centers available for you to use traditional weightlifting equipment or run on an elliptical machine.
It goes without saying that you could always choose to sleep in your bed, without having to pay anything extra. But you have to come to Zurich to experience all of the difference places you could sleep. Stay at a hotel if you like, but you would be missing out on a lot of the great bed and breakfasts of the area. Some have been in business for nearly 100 years! You capture the rich history of the city over multiple periods of time if you stay at one of the non-chain establishments. Definitely worth a visit! If you’re bringing a large group or just want a more luxurious experience, you can even rent a private home for your stay. You would basically receive a home away from home, giving you a chance to enjoy Zurich in style for a week or more.
Overall, we love the idea of going to Zurich, and have plans to take many trips to Switzerland over the next few months. What about you?
